Even the oldest and most picturesque of India’s golf courses cannot quite match the great charm of the Delhi Golf Club (DGC). Set against the distinct backdrop of Delhi’s atmospheric Lodhi dynasty era monuments and dancing peacocks, the DGC is a glorious blend of history, forest, birdlife, and all this right in the heart of the city. The Club is home to the famed 18-hole Lodhi Golf Course, which plays host to the Asian PGA Tour.
Soon after Delhi became the Capital in 1928, eminent British architect Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens decided to shift the course from its old location to its present address, and there it has stayed to this day as the finest golfing address in the country.
The DGC’s central location makes it one of the busiest courses in the world. With its impeccably manicured fairways and fast greens, its reputation as a great championship course is well deserved. The DGC’s beautiful trees and famously dense bushes line the tight fairways on either side – lying in wait to gobble up errant drives!
The shorter 9-hole Peacock Golf Course here came into being when the course was redesigned by Peter Thomson in 1976-77.
When you play golf at the DGC, you know you are in for the experience of a lifetime. Here lie the relics and ruins of a mighty 15th century medieval dynasty for you to tee off on a trail of history.Over 300 species of bird delight ‘birdies’ of a different kind with rare glimpses. Wooded green vistas make for a serene, secluded, and relaxed ambience. Not too far away are Delhi's other heritage spots – the Lodhi Gardens, Humayun's Tomb, and India Gate.
Carved out of a portion from the Lodhi ruler’s estate, the world famous Lodhi Golf Course is popular for all the right reasons. Being the nesting ground for around 300 rare bird species, this buzzing and serene place is filled with rich landscape. Despite its uneven and difficult landscape, it has strategic shot opportunities for golf lovers. When you play golf here, you will find yourself walking through a historical place. Reminding of the glorious lives of Lodhi rulers and the great natural beauty of their time, this club has been successful in maintaining the raw taste of the surroundings. Experiencing about 500 golfer footfalls on daily basis, this club is the proud host of Asian PGA Tour.
Walking through the picturesque locales inside this club, you can get a real feel of Mughal era monuments dated about 400 years old. The calm, beauty and architectural wonders create a perfect setting for playing golf, relaxing with pals and exploring rare sights of chirping birds on this place. There are two Golf Courses namely 18 holed Lodhi Golf Course and the shorter 9 holed peacock Golf Course inside this club. Redesigned by Peter Thompson in 1977, this Golf Course is more popular among mediocre golfers. Proudly hosting the 1982 Asian Games golf tournament, it has frequently played the role very well till present.
Travelers coming to Delhi do spare time to come here for a relaxed day, for tasting the positive vibes, fresh air, game of golf and hot coffee along with their good company. Delighting experience seekers through its amazing natural wealth, this club is a paradise for those looking for some golf and peaceful locale.
