Channapatna, Karnataka Channapatna, or Gombegalaooru, just off the Bengaluru-Mysore highway in Karnataka, and popularly known as ‘toy town’, has earned the Geographical Indication (GI) tag - an international label awarded to products corresponding to a specific geographical location or origin – on account of its wooden handcrafted toys and other items. The town’s streets are lined with painted wooden figures, souvenirs and toys - animals, dolls, caterpillars, kitchen sets, and bobbing dancers in vibrant colors of orange, ochre, red, yellow, blue, and parrot-green. Wooden toy making began here during the 18th century under the reign of Tipu Sultan, who was a patron of wooden crafts. He invited artisans from Persia to teach toy-making skills to local craftsmen, after which it became an integral part of the town’s culture and economy. Traditionally, the craftsmen work with rosewood, sandalwood, and even ivory. Thereafter, they give the product a lacquered finish with resin and vegetable dyes. Nowadays, craftsmen have switched to using eco-friendly paints and inexpensive wood like pine and rubber. For a hands-on experience, visitors can attend workshops to observe the craftsmen, as well as create magic with wood themselves.

Marwar Festival
October 12 - 13, 2019 / October 30 - 31, 2020 | Rajasthan.
The Rajput warrior tribes take great pride in their courageous valor and chivalrous heroism both on and off the battlefield. These warriors were icons of loyalty, integrity, strength, independence, hard work, and exceptional military and strategic intelligence.
The Marwar Festival, originally known as the Maand Festival, is held at The Umaid Bhawan Palace and the Mehrangarh fort at Jodhpur, and Mandore nearby. The state of Marwar was founded in 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, a prominent chieftain of the Rathore clan. The festival
showcases its rich legacy of heroism, culture, and tradition. Maandis or bards are traditional folk musicians who perform at the festival to commemorate the Rajput heroes of yore and relive their romance and heroism through music, dance, and drama before an enthralled audience, which comprises both locals and tourists alike, and who travel far and wide to partake in the festivities. The two-day extravaganza is held annually across the full moon nights during September – October, recreating and reliving the spirit of a bygone royal era through recounting of old myths and legends, besides other interesting activities like camel rides, camel tattoo show, horse riding, magic shows, puppet shows, and horse polo.
